Puerto Rico Spring Break-Out
About the Program
This BreakOut is a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and service on the island of Puerto Rico. In 2017, everything changed for the three million American citizens living on the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Hurricanes Irma and Maria slammed the island back to back and completely devastated it, destroying its infrastructure and services in the process. This Spring BreakOut trip will includes UD Puerto Ricans helping to lead the experience as the group learns more about Puerto Rico’s history, culture and the everyday lives of Puerto Ricans. The group will also help out with continued hurricane recovery on the island and engage with Marianists in the community.
As a part of your BreakOut or Immersion experience, you will be registered in an Experiential Learning Course (EXP). This is a non-credit bearing course which is the BreakOut/Immersion experience itself. It will show up on your official UD transcript that you participated in this service-learning experience as a measure of your further involvement and learning here at UD.

Participants must attend weekly preparation meetings with the group. This is a major commitment. You must be willing to commit your time and energy to this effort or you will lose your place on the trip.
