Belize Winter Break-Out
About the Program
Winter BreakOuts through Campus Ministry’s Center for Social Concern are a great way to learn about a new culture, meet new people, and grow in cultural understanding, while helping others. Rooted in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, participants in our program should grow in an understanding of global solidarity, the dignity of the human person, a preferential option for the poor and vulnerable, as well as growing in their own faith and role as a global citizen.
Each BreakOut has a reflection leader to help facilitate the orientation process as well as the reflection along the way while traveling.
Students on this year’s Belize Winter BreakOut will be partnering with A Broader View and working at an orphanage just outside Belize City. During the mornings, the group will help with general upkeep and rehab of the orphanage building, mainly doing painting and gardening. In the afternoons, they will work one on one with the children at the orphanage, helping them with their homework and providing companionship and building new relationships. This is great opportunity to reach out to children in Belize and show them they are loved, even from afar. There will be some time for sight-seeing in Belize as well. Please note that Belize is an English speaking country.
As a part of your BreakOut or Immersion experience, you will be registered in an Experiential Learning Course (EXP). This is a non-credit bearing course which is the BreakOut/Immersion experience itself. It will show up on your official UD transcript that you participated in this service-learning experience as a measure of your further involvement and learning here at UD.

Participants must attend weekly preparation meetings with the group. This is a major commitment. You must be willing to commit your time and energy to this effort or you will lose your place on the trip.
Cost and Refund Policy
Each student must pay the cost of the trip as listed. Groups are encouraged to fund raise together to reduce the cost for each participant. The program cost of the trip covers ground transportation, lodging, and most food. See budget sheet for specific cost information and the refund policy for this program.
