Communicate with your host family. You will build a connection stronger than you could ever imagine. Stay open to the culture.

I would recommend this trip because you are able to have great experiences in a great place with great people. I find myself so lucky to have been in so many different parts of Spain, especially Segovia, with 18 other students, two professors, and a host family and be able to experience things I will probably never experience again. If you are on the brink of going, go.

One of the best parts about this trip is the interactions you have with the local people. My host family was very welcoming and helpful when it came to adapting to the Segovian culture. I feel that throughout this trip, I have made friends that I will continue to keep in touch with from the University of Dayton as well as Segovia.

Best experience of my life. Every student should have the opportunity to study abroad.

Just know that Spain is a completely different pace than here so just be flexible when it comes to obstacles thrown your way. Also, you have to remember that you have classes too so even though you travel on the weekends you still have class after. Honestly this is an amazing opportunity and a fantastic experience; Segovia is an awesome city that made me feel at home (even with the 6 hour time difference).

Challenging yourself to speak with the host family even when you were extremely tired.

The program was one of the best ways to spend a month this past summer. I learned that the world was very different from what I had imagined, but it was also very much the same. I learned that I had so many similarities with my family and the people there. People are the same everywhere. If you try to experience a persons culture you are able to connect with them and speak to them no matter the language. I was able to explore Spain - the people, the food, the different areas, and each aspect changed my view of how I should interact with all the people of the world.

The Segovia trip with Francisco is amazing. Living with a host family will improve your speaking skills without you even trying. The town of Segovia is beautiful and Spain itself is a beautiful country. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves the spanish language and wants to have the eexperience of a lifetime.

My study abroad experience in Segovia, Spain was the best experience of my life. I was able to experience the Spanish culture in a hands-on way by living with a host family while also getting the opportunity to travel the beautiful country of Spain.

Francisco is the most patient, hilarious, understanding professor I've ever had, being in the program with him really made a difference in classes and in adjusting to the cultural life of the city (which he is originally from). He makes this program unique from all other study abroad programs and really allowed/helped me to make the experience what I wanted.

I would 100% recommend this program. I met new friends not only from UD, but also from Spain. I learned how to speak Spanish better through interactions with my host family and in my classes. I became more independent by organizing weekend trips to other parts of the country. Overall, I loved my experience and I hope to return to Spain some day.

Do not be afraid to branch out of your comfort zone and travel with one or two other people. I would recommend Seville or Granada (down south) as well as Barcelona and Pamplona; but do not try to cram in too many things, just a weekend in Segovia can be great. Enjoy your time there, be safe and smart but take risks and try things you have never tried before. The scenery is gorgeous and the places are nothing like you will ever see in the U.S., do not be shy to talk to every foreigner there that you possible can and start right away. Ask your host family many questions, do not get behind on schoolwork, smile a lot and relax and spend a day just slowing down and soaking it all in...Life is what you make of it, so make it excellent.

It was very rewarding to be able to use what you learn in the classroom in real life situations. I was amazed that I was able to conduct conversations entirely in Spanish. I will never forget the experiences I had in Segovia or traveling to different cities throughout Spain.

This is one of the best experiences ever. You get to learn in another country with students who share the same love of the language and culture who are also Flyer Faithful. You have plenty of free time to explore and figure things out on your own or with friends, as well as having classroom led immersions in the country. I would recommend it to anyone!
My only suggestion is to go whether you think you're great at spanish or not! This is the PERFECT place to practice your skills in a real-life setting. You might be surprised at what you;re capable of doing.

The Spanish Language Immersion Program in Segovia, Spain was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It allowed me to experience the Spanish language and culture firsthand by living with a host family and experiencing everyday life in the beautiful city of Segovia. Being able to finally put all the years of Spanish classes to use was very rewarding, and nothing compares to taking Spanish classes when you are actually in Spain. There was so much history and culture all around us, and learning about this history where it actually took place and getting to see the art and architecture firsthand was extremely rewarding. Living with host families definitely forced you to speak the language, which, although challenging at some times, was vital for developing better fluency. Planning weekend trips was sometimes challenging as well, but having to figure out transportation and hostels, as well as navigating new cities was a learning experience. It helped me gain confidence in myself and my ability to be independent and taught me to not sweat the small stuff so much. It also gave me a new perspective on how big the world really is, yet small at the same time, and how everywhere in the world you can find people who share many things in common with you, but also people who are very different from you. On top of everything, the relationships you form with the people you meet through this program and the unforgettable memories you make together are priceless.

Our trip to Segovia was one of the best summer experiences of my life. You are completely immersed into the culture and it forces you to use your Spanish and improve on it. My host family was incredible and helpful when I was struggling with my Spanish skills. I would recommend this program if you want to build confidence in your Spanish and learn about different cultural values and beliefs.

The Spanish I learned during the trip to Segovia was so valuable in the overall scheme to my Spanish major. Speaking Spanish everyday for a month really helped with my confidence when speaking the language. I also became very close with my host family, specifically one of the daughters and the mother. We still keep in touch via social media and email and I genuinely missed them when I left Spain. I also recommend this trip because I made life long friends that I wouldn't have maybe ever met at Dayton and we became the tightest-knit family over the course of a month.

This trip is a phenomenal way to spend your summer. Being immersed in the Spanish culture with a host family will greatly improve your Spanish skills--not to mention that you will get to explore one of the most beautiful and culturally rich countries of Europe. Just take the leap and go, you won't be sorry.

It is challenging going abroad with UD students however the cultural and language experiences are invaluable and worth every penny.

This was the best trip I've ever had out of the country. If you leave behind all your stereotypes and close-minded opinions and instead choose to completely immerse yourself and take advantage of your time in a different country then you will have an amazing time that you won't regret. Say yes to doing more things and learning the culture. I would 110% recommend the trip because it will stick with you for your entire life. You will have many stories to tell, and you will learn a lot in classes, in your host home, and in Spain in general. You will become an experienced public transportation traveler, as well as an aficionado of new foods. Sure, there will be various personal challenges at times, but relaxing and moving on through will always solve them. At the end of the trip you will undoubtedly want to stay longer.

I would recommend this program to anyone wanting to study abroad and improve their Spanish skills. This trip will definitely pull you outside your comfort zone but it will give you experiences that will help you grow as an individual. From living with a host family, to classes, excursions, and traveling on the weekends, this trip was amazing and so incredibly memorable. The classes and trying to communicate with native speakers were two most challenging aspects of the program. It was rewarding in the fact that I have such a greater respect and appreciation for people of other cultures. If you embrace the differences between Spanish and American cultures, it is crazy how much you will learn and how Spain starts to feel like home.

I would absolutely recommend this program. It is a true immersion experience, so don't expect Spain to be America. You have to adapt to the culture, the lovely lovely Spanish culture. I learned so much both inside and outside of the classroom. Well run program, and Spain is just one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited. And Segovia is a perfect place to be based out of. Classes required effort and work, but I never felt like the courseload prevented me from enjoying and experiencing Spain.

This program is great for getting immersed into a new culture by living with a host family and in a smaller less busy town. Planning your own travel can be very difficult so work with other classmates! Take the time to get to know your other classmates because by the time you finally really know everyone it will be over. While traveling in large groups can get overwhelming I recommend at least trying to travel with some of your class! The art class is very overwhelming at first, but the test is very fair and the teacher breaks it down nicely. I highly recommend this program one of the best decisions I ever made.

I recommend planning weekend trips early to save money and meeting with students outside of the maxie course to get to know each other better before traveling.

Amazing program, definitely worth it to go through UD because the teachers are amazing and you become so close with the people on the trip and then get to see them on campus. We all learned so much and gain knowledge about the different language and culture we came to contact with. I would go again in a heartbeat if I could!

This program was absolutely amazing! I loved that we got to live in a smaller city that still had a ton of history and landmarks. It made it easier to adjust to being in Spain to be in a smaller city. It was so fun to live with a host family, though at times difficult to communicate. But you can always find another way to explain what you are saying! The teachers were so fun and really taught a lot. I learned so much about art I never thought I would know, and the information is sticking! The excursions were really cool to see and they were great because they were to places I never would've gone on my own. I loved this program also because of the diversity of students that went on the trip. We had engineering majors, education majors, business majors, Pre-Med majors, Dietetics, Pre-PT, Communications, and so many more majors on our trip. It brought together people that would've never met if it weren't for this program. I highly recommend this program and hope students interested in it in the future choose to go too!

It is the best way to test your Spanish skills and live how a Spaniard would. Every host family was amazing, and I fell in love with Segovia instantly. Traveling around Spain was the best experience of my life, I made incredible UD friends, and I've grown as a Spanish speaker and as an individual.
