I really enjoyed my trip to Chaminade University. It's a great location for those students who enjoy outdoor activities! The temperature and landscaping is perfect for the active, nature-lover. The culture is truly unique and I recommend diving into it head first.

It will open their eyes in the best way! I learned SO much about many different Pacific island cultures and made some of my best friends there - I miss them everyday. This exchange was the best decision I made in college yet and I'm willing to talk to anyone who wants more information about it!

You are on your own a lot during this program, but explore as much as you can! It's beautiful. If able to, live off of campus in apartments near Waikiki. Go on hikes, to beaches, and food truck events, those are amazing! The bus takes a while but it'll be worth it.

I would recommend this program to anyone. I had to do this program because my science classes would not transfer from somewhere like Europe, however, being in Hawaii is unlike any other part of the United States, so I did feel like I was abroad. There are so many cultures present in Hawaii and it is impossible not to learn about them. The people at the school are very welcoming and very happy to teach you about their cultures. It is important to get involved and meet the people from different places because they will teach you the most. I will never forget this experience or the people that I met while I was there.

4 months in Hawaii...you would be crazy not to at least consider it. I absolutely love UD so choosing to leave for a semester was nerve-racking for me, but there was not a single moment in Hawaii when I regretted my decision. For those considering this program, let me leave you with this: There are always a million reasons not to do something. Yes, you will miss your family and friends; it's very true that Hawaii is an expensive place to live; and yep, if you go during Spring you will miss St. Paddy's Day at UD. But those things are an afterthought as you're swimming with sea turtles, climbing volcanoes, or jumping off waterfalls.

What other students should know:
1-Hawaii is super expensive
2-Don't live in Date Street, live at Iolani Terrace
3-TRAVEL - the best parts of Hawaii aren't in Honolulu
4-GO TO EXTRAVAGANZA!
5-Meet locals
6-Make as many friends on campus as you can
7-Emerse yourself in the cultures
8-Go outside - DO NOT stay inside
9-Enjoy every minute of it

There's a lot of mix in Hawaii between many different cultures. I learned a lot about other areas of the world and met people from places I have never even heard of. It was really cool to see some of the beaches and scenery that they have there. You cannot beat some of the views you get to see while hiking.

I would highly recommend this program for any student who is looking for an incredible experience in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The overall experience of this trip, for me, was unbelievable and I would definitely participate again in a heartbeat if I could. I was able to make lasting friendships, tons of amazing memories, and it is definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life.

The Marianist exchange program at Chaminade University of Honolulu was incredible. Although this program is still in the U.S., participants were emerged in the unique Hawaiian culture and mindset. Students were also exposed to endless opportunities for exploration and personal growth. I would recommend to all future participants to step out of their comfort zone, meet life-long local friends, and venture the beautiful 'aina (land). Take advantage of every moment in being part of Hawaii's humbling culture, this experience will be truly unforgettable.

I recommend getting very involved in campus and clubs. Chaminade University offers a lot of opportunities and events that UD does not offer. Attend the cultural events, meet new friends, get outside your comfort zone!

I would recommend this program to students who wish to learn more about a vibrant culture in the United States, as well as those who yearn for adventure. Hawaii is a beautiful place full of wonderful people.

It is a very immersive experience into a rich and different culture. It was rewarding to be on a tropical island for a long period of time. I remember the beaches and the hikes and the view from Henry Hall looking out at the ocean.

Branch out of the UD group while you're there. Seriously consider getting a part-time job. Learn to surf, do a lot of hikes, explore different parts of the island, try local food, and learn the history and cultures. Keep an open mind, some people go into it with lots of expectations but the experience is what you make of it.

I would recommend this exchange program in a heartbeat. There is so much independence that comes along with living in a new city for a few months at a time. Hawaii really is the perfect place to go on adventures, face your fears, and do things that are out of the ordinary. I loved every second of my time in Hawaii, and while I may have missed home, I would not take back my time there. Living in a literal paradise for a semester was such a blessing. I would give anything to be able to go back and live in Honolulu right now.
